Buying Tips:

When buying online it is nessecary to communicate with your seller and ask any and all questions that may be relevant to the item. As with any monetary transaction use common sense and remember the old term "buyer beware". Be sure to ask your seller if they are willing to guarantee the item and examine their feedback. Everybody must start somewhere but after a few transactions every user should have a feedback rating of 95% or greater. Ask your seller for extra pictures and their phone number if it is a high dollar item. If your seller does not respond to your questions don't bid as they may very well be just as hard to communicate if not harder after they have your money. Communication is the key. HotRodders Auctions is more than just a place to buy, trade and sell your racing items, it is a place to congregate and meet new people, new acquaintances and life long friends.
Selling tips:

As a seller it is important to write a good title and description. When writing a title include as much information as possible not just for the buyer but for the search so the buyers can find your item. Don't just write "350 rods", the buyer doesn't know if it's for a 350 Chevy or Buick...if they even find it. For example they type into the search "rods sbc" your item may not show. Imagine all the words that your buyers may be looking under. A better title would be "6" SBC Chevy Rods 350, 383 use w/ full floater pistons". in this example a buyer looking for 350 Full Floater Pistons or 6" pistons sbc could find your Rods also.
Now that the buyer can find your item you need to be able to tell them about it. Explain what it is, the history, the condition, if you are willing to guarantee it and what you don't know about it. Be honest. Answer every question you can and elaborate if possible. Communication is the the key to success.

Picture size:

File upload sizes are limited to 500kb{500,000b} and a picture of this size can take 2 minutes or more to download on a dialup connection. You can manually check the file size & dimensions by right clicking on the picture and selecting "Properties". For example a picture taken with a Cannon PowerShot A60 can have a dimension of 1024 X 768 pixels and a file size of 486kb on a moderate setting. This image will be larger than the screen of your monitor. If a high quality setting is selected the image could be four times that size.

We offer an automatic Image Resizer you can download Photo Gadget HERE. Download time should be about 3 minutes with a 28.8 connection. The suggested size is 640 x 640 pixels and the "keep aspect ratio" box should be checked. This small program {less than 500kb} can automatically resize many pictures at one time with the simple click of a mouse. It is ideal for one picture or several.

If you would like to manually like to change the picture size MSpaint is a fairly simple and common program that you can use. Simply right click on the picture you want to edit and select "edit". If using Windows this will open you picture in paint. On the top navigation bar press the "Image" button and select "stretch/skew". In the above mentioned picture taken with the Cannon A60 the dimensions were 1024 X 768 pixels and 486kb. If we "stretch/skew" by 50% vertical and 50% horizontal this will leave us with a picture 1/2 as tall/wide...end result 512 x 384 pixels and 44.7kb. This is a great savings on bandwidth a page load speeds not to mention that the picture will actually fit in the screen along with other images. The image can now be uploaded and downloaded 10 times faster!
